National Association Of Insurance Commissioners Offers New App To Help Home Owners Be Better Prepared In Natural Disasters
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Few of us go looking for trouble, but as Hurricane Irene showed just last weekend sometimes trouble finds us. KYW's John Ostapkovich reports on a next-generation way of being prepared.
One of the bits of advice from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department this week was to take photos and videos of what was damaged, but in extreme cases (like floodwaters raging through your house) it might be too late. That television is simply gone.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners, NAIC, now has an Android phone App to go with its earlier iPhone App described by Melissa Fox of the PA Insurance Department.
"It's called the myHOME Scr.APP.book. Basically what it is, it is a home inventory that you can have online. You can take pictures of all of the contents of your home, by room, serial numbers, things of that nature."
The free app is available through iTunes and the Android Marketplace but its spelling is peculiar so you might want just to search for NAIC instead.
