Mural Arts Program Unveils South Philadelphia Project to Honor 'The Roots'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A big, blank wall at the corner of 6th and South Streets in South Philadelphia will soon be a giant canvas for the Mural Arts Program.
The mural will showcase one of Philadelphia's most famous bands, The Roots.
"It inspires us, it taps into our imagination," Mural Arts executive director Jane Golden (top right) said today.
What brought the Mural Arts Program to the decision to do a mural of The Roots?
"When ?uestlove narrated our African-American collection of murals for us, we thought, 'What a fantastic project!' " Golden recalls.
Leonard "Hub" Hubbard, a former longtime member of The Roots (bottom right), thinks it's quite an honor.
"It's a big thing because, throughout the city, you have the Grover Washington mural, you have the John Coltrane mural, you've got the Georgie Woods. All these people were influential, Philadelphia hometown folk, and to be in that same group of people and to be honored by your city, it's just a blast," he told KYW Newsradio after the announcement.
