Mural Arts Program Takes Art Beyond The Wall, Celebrates Food In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The City of Philadelphia's Mural Arts program kicked off its summer program for "What We Sow," a program that celebrates food and takes art beyond the wall with cooking demos and more.
For its 30 anniversary, Mural Arts is partnering with international artists to host a community meal in Old City this fall.
But in the meantime, the community can celebrate heirloom foods through workshops, tastings, neighborhood conversations and mural tours.
"We were able to put together three tours that focus on three different neighborhoods in the city," says Mural Arts Program Coordinator Netanel Portier.
She says they'll visit West Philadelphia, Southeast Philadelphia and Kensington with events that connect communities to the politics of food production and art.
"Each of them includes an introduction to one of the food trust markets and then connects through the murals in the neighborhood to an urban farm or garden," Portier explains.
The summer program kicks off this weekend and culminates with "What We Sow" on October 5th. For more information, visit: muralarts.org.
