Mural Arts Program Seeks Volunteers For Huge PHL Airport Artwork
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Organizers of Philadelphia's largest Mural Arts project want the community to come out for a "Community Paint Day" this coming Sunday.
The Mural Arts Program needs volunteers to show up on Sunday at its third-floor studio in the Gallery shopping mall (above), 9th and Market Streets, to help create "How Philly Moves," a 50,000-square-foot mural that's scheduled to be installed next June along the façade of the parking garage at Philadelphia International Airport.
With the help of muralists, volunteers will paint panels made of parachute cloth that together will create the huge mural.
No experience is required. Jonathan Laidacker (at left in photo, back to camera) is the lead muralist.
"We're trying to make the experience of them contributing to the largest project in Philadelphia a fun experience for them," Laidacker said on Tuesday, "and while they're here, educating them about the project itself and driving home the fact that they are contributing to the largest project in the city."
The painting takes place Sunday from 12 noon until 3 PM at the Gallery, third floor.
