Much Of SEPTA Service Resumed, Except Regional Rails
By Mike Dunn
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA announced that much of its transportation system resumed service Tuesday afternoon and Regional Rail service will resume operations Wednesday morning.
SEPTA general manager Joe Casey said that the Regional Rail lines sustained significant damage from Hurricane Sandy. Trains on all Regional Rail lines will follow regular weekday schedules on Wednesday. Customers may experience residual delays, and should allow extra time for their commute.
SEPTA officials said that 80 percent of the city's bus service was resuming this afternoon, plus about 60 percent of suburban bus service, although with some minor detours in both cases. The Broad Street Subway, the Market-Frankford subway-elevated line, and the Routes 10, 11, 13, 15, 34, and 36 trolley lines were also back in service.
In addition, SEPTA said, the Norristown High Speed line and Route 102 Sharon Hill line were resuming, as was the Route 101 Media line, as far as Woodland Avenue.
They stressed that resumption of each Regional Rail line will depend on clearing tracks, removing trees, restringing downed wires, and, for some lines, getting the all-clear from Amtrak for use of their tracks.
Officials urged the riding public to check their web site, septa.org, for updates and specific information about each line.
