PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Former World Series champion pitcher Jamie Moyer is back in town for a camp conference and private screening of an HBO documentary about kids and grieving. A topic near and dear to both his and his wife's heart.
Camps Erin are across the country and run April through the fall and are free long weekends of fun and camaraderie for kids who've lost a loved one.
Now HBO has done a documentary about the camps; It's scheduled to air in March. Karen Moyer and husband Jamie co-founded the foundation that created the camps. She says not talking about grief is never good.
"Statistics back up those that are in juvie, on death row, who have relationship issues have drug abuse, alcoholism - all kinds of things can pop up in life if we just sweep it under the carpet," Moyer says the transformation is remarkable for campers is remarkable -- that it's empowering for a child to realize someone else is going through the same heartache they are.
