Motorists Advised To Grin and Bear Delays as A.C. Expressway Work Proceeds

By Paul Kurtz

HAMMONTON, N.J. (CBS) -- As we approach the start of the summer season, motorists are being reminded about construction work along a portion of the Atlantic City Expressway.

The good news is that you won't be facing any construction delays this weekend.

"All of our construction over the holiday has been postponed or canceled," South Jersey Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Rehmann tells KYW Newsradio.

He says the project to add a third lane on the westbound side of the AC Expressway between exits 25 and 31 is now in its final phase -- but it is a lengthy one, stretching beyond the summer season and into the fall.

Still, Rehmann believes that driving through that ten-mile stretch of construction shouldn't be too bad.

"There's still two full lanes westbound, as there always was," he said today.  "It may slow down somewhat in the construction areas."

The speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles an hour through the construction zone.
