Motorcyclist Arrested After Hit-Run Involving Horse In Delaware

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. (CBS) -– A Delaware man was arrested after police say he struck a horse with his motorcycle and then fled the scene.
The incident happened at about 6:50 p.m. Sunday on Chaplains Chapel Road south of Deer Forest Road in Bridgeville, Delaware.
According to investigators, a 40-year-old Bridgeville woman was riding her 16-year-old quarter horse named "Chance" on Chaplains Chapel Road. After checking the roadway to make sure it was safe, the woman entered the road when the sound of a fast approaching motorcycle startled the horse causing it to remain in the roadway.
The motorcyclist, identified by police as Roosevelt S. Williams, applied the brakes and slid on the roadway before striking the horse on the right side.
After gaining control of the horse, the victim ran to the motorcyclist, who appeared injured and attempted to render first aid. The motorcyclist refused any treatment and proceeded to get on his motorcycle and flee on Chaplains Chapel Road.
About 15 minutes later, officers spotted Williams on his motorcycle on DuPont Boulevard (US113) and Seashore Highway. The officers attempted to stop Williams, but authorities say he sped off and led police on a chase that touched 100 mph.
Approximately 40 minutes later, Delaware State Troopers took Williams into custody after a brief struggle.
Williams, 34, was found to be in possession of 3.2 grams of synthetic marijuana upon his arrest. He was transported to Troop 7 where he was charged with over 70 traffic violations, including Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving, Disregarding a Police Officers Signal, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
He is being held on $13,950.00 cash bond.
The woman riding the horse was slightly injured, but did not require any medical attention. "Chance" did not appear to be injured.
