Mother of Bucks Teen Takes Plea Deal After Felony Gun Charge Removed
By Brad Segall
HOLLAND, Pa. (CBS) -- A plea deal has been worked out involving a Bucks County woman whose 14-year-old son threatened to "shoot up" Council Rock South High School last December (see related story).
The alleged plot was thwarted by some quick-thinking parents and students.
Today, on the day her trial was scheduled to begin, Lizabeth Donohoe pleaded guilty to child endangerment and possession of marijuana after prosecutors agreed to drop gun charges.
After the threat was made by her son last year, police went to Donohoe's Northampton, Pa. home, where they found two World War II-era, semiautomatic guns in the child's bedroom.
Defense attorney Lou Busico says he was pleased with the plea deal.
"Once the felony was removed, once the allegation of delivery of firearms was taken out of the case, we were out of harm's way, if you will, and we decided to resolve it without a trial," he told KYW Newsradio this morning.
Busico says his client also wanted to spare her son from taking the stand at her trial.
At no time, Busico says, did the 51-year-old woman give her son any guns.
Sentencing will come later this year. Her son was found "delinquent" in juvenile court and remains in a treatment facility.
