Most Philadelphia Fans Nonplussed By Eagles' NFL Draft Pick

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Round one of the NFL draft did not go as expected for the Eagles, who surprised everyone by picking Louisville linebacker Marcus Smith.

It was ratings gold for sports talk show hosts such as 94WIP's Angelo Cataldi.

"There's no logical justification for picking a guy that no one else had on the board for the first round," Cataldi said on air this morning.  "No teams,  no experts, no guys in their mom's basement.  No one had Marcus Smith in the first round of the draft. No one did!"

But now that the initial shock has worn off, some fans seem willing to wait and see how Smith pans out.

"Do I think he was the best player at that time they gave it up to Cleveland? No," said one.  "But I think Chip Kelly knows what he's doing."

"As long as he's not Mike Mamula, I'll be happy," said another.
