More Showers And Thunderstorms Potentially On The Way

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- What a wild Wednesday morning!
A large cluster of rain and intense thunderstorms set itself up over the Delaware Valley Wednesday morning, drenching commuters and leaving behind widespread flash flooding. Numerous rainfall totals came into the Eyewitness Weather Center of 2-4"+ from the two days of heavy precipitation in our area. In addition, there were also reports of vehicles stalled and stranded in flood waters.
The rest of Wednesday will still feature additional showers and locally heavy thunderstorms over a good portion of the area. So, you may still encounter minor flooding and slow travel; however, indications are that the wet weather will start to fizzle through the afternoon and early evening. By the time we get past 8 p.m. or so, most of the region should be in the clear.
In the meantime, expect three main impacts with anything that fires up the rest of the day: heavy downpours, lightning and perhaps some gusty wind.
There's better news on the horizon! Dew points begin to drop considerably overnight into Thursday and Friday, in other words the humidity slate gets wiped clean! Plus, with more sunshine and comfortable summertime highs in the mid 80's, we'll have several great days to get in those outdoor plans!
A quick look ahead to the weekend: a new system will approach, so there may be a shower or storm either Saturday or Sunday, but more than anything expect some sun both days and steamier highs that flirt with or actually reach 90 degrees.
