More Legal Wrangling Over New Jersey's Medical Marijuana Law
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Jersey legislators appear ready to take on the Christie Administration over implementation of the state's new medical marijuana law. The law, approved in the waning days of the Corzine Administration, is about to go into effect. But proponents say the rules developed by Christie's Health Department are far from what they had in mind.
Union County State Senator Nicholas Scutari:
"The number one concern I have is access to the medicine for the patients through the number of distribution centers."
So he's begun a two step process not often used in New Jersey that could force Christie's hand. First, he's seeking approval of a resolution that would outline where the new rules violate the intent of the original legislation. Should that pass, he hopes for action within a month.
The administration would then have 30 days to pull the rules or amend them. Failure to act could lead to a second resolution that would invalidate those regulations.
