More Hurdles For Medical Marijuana in New Jersey

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Advocates for medical marijuana in New Jersey are none too thrilled with proposed rules to implement a new law in the Garden State.

The draft rules from the health department are up for a month and a half of review and backers of the plan insist the rules don't meet the intention of the legislation that passed in the waning days of the Corzine Administration.

Roseanne Scotti with the New Jersey Drug Policy Alliance says there are far too many restrictions making it difficult for those in need to get help:

"We feel that the fees are really exorbitant. It would be $200 for a patient just to get a registry card and a lot of our patients are people who don't have that kind of money."

Those on federal or state assistance could qualify for a $20 card. Groups like hers are ready for a fight and there's talk of trying to amend the new law to liberalize the regulations should these take effect.
