More Controversy Involving PHA Director Carl Greene
PHA and federal officials are now at odds over the use of federal money to pay settlements of sexual misconduct claims against director Carl Greene.
KYW's Mike Dunn reports officials at the Department of Housing and Urban Development are in the midst of an intensive audit of PHA and will not comment specifically on the case. But they do say as a matter of policy, any payment in a legal settlement by a local housing authority must first be approved by HUD.
The PHA did reach three settlements in which the agency and its insurer made payments, with PHA forking over nearly $250,000 -- without HUD's approval. A PHA spokeswoman refused a request for an interview, but issued a statement saying "HUD approval is not required for the settlement of insurance defense matters."
Greene's fate may be decided when the PHA board meets next on September 23rd.
