CHELTENHAM TWP., Pa. (CBS) - Memorial Day will be marked in Cheltenham Township Monday at 10:30 a.m. with a ceremony remembering veterans dating back to the Civil War and the renaming of some township fields for those who answered our country's call in its time of need.
The Montgomery County community and its American Legion Post will gather at the historic cemetery behind the Shovel Works building on Ashbourne Road to pay tribute to those heroes who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.
From there they will walk to the War Memorial for a roll call of Cheltenham veterans who died in the line of duty.
"Memorial Day marks a significant day to remember the veterans and this new collaboration with the American Legion and Cheltenham Township is just one additional way to honor the veterans," says Bryan Havir, the township manager.
The township plans to honor those veterans by renaming Griffin Field which, moving forward will be called Veterans Memorial Fields.
Township officials say they are pleased that a relationship is being fostered between the township and the men and women who served our country.
