Ridley Township Students Pray For 14-Year-Old Hit-Run Victim
RIDLEY TWP., Pa. (CBS) -- Dozens of students came to show their support through get-well messages, t-shirts, and poems.
Classmates of 14-year-old Anthony Oswald are praying for the 8th grader, who suffered serious head injuries from a hit and run accident over the weekend.
"I just need to see his smile," said Kyle Gavetti.
At around 10 p.m. Friday night, police say Anthony was among two groups of about 15 teens who were crossing the street at McDade Boulevard and Morton Avenue.
Lt. Scott Willouby with the Ridley Township Police says 52-year-old Tyrone Williams, whose license was suspended, drove his mini-van though the intersection to beat a red light.
Three girls from Ridley High School were struck, but Anthony suffered the worst injuries.
Police say they found Anthony 91 feet away from where he was hit.
Anthony's congregation at St. Madeline Parish in Ridley Park is also in prayer. Father Louis Bellopede visited him at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Today his friends are wearing red to remind drivers that stopping at red lights can stop another serious accident like this from happening again.
Police say they caught up with Williams in Chester, minutes after he fled the scene.
Investigators say his license was suspended because he has diabetes, which impacts his vision.
