Montco Students Volunteer At Philadelphia Charity
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA (CBS) - Some high school students from Montgomery County are getting into the holiday spirit today by donating a truck full of clothing to help the homeless in Philadelphia.
More than 30 students, who take part in the Partnership Organization at Hatboro-Horsham High School, will deliver the clothes to the Broad Street Ministry, a non-profit that provides meals, shelter and clothing to the homeless. The students encouraged their friends and the community to donate items for the clothing drive.
Principal Dennis Williams says they came through, "Despite the economic downfall and downturn and things that are going in the community, our community has been unbelievable."
The students also volunteer one day a month with the ministry's "Breaking Bread" program where meals and services are provided. Williams says it's been an eye-opening experience for the suburban kids who learned that even college graduates and professionals can fall on hard times and become homeless in the blink of an eye.
