Montco Official Says Peco Responded Well To Storm But Wonders About Underlying Issues

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- As the number of people without power in the Greater Philadelphia area continues to dwindle nearly a week after the ice storm, county elected leaders are assessing the response to the storm's aftermath.
Montgomery County was one of the areas hardest hit. County commissioner Josh Shapiro is commending Peco's senior leadership team for constantly updating the county on the progress of the work to restore power.
But Shapiro says it was clear at times during the storm that there may have been a breakdown in the chain of communication between the state, the counties, and Peco.
"And just because I believe there are questions that need to be answered doesn't mean that I believe Peco is somehow at fault," Shapiro said today. "I think Peco would like to see those questions be asked as well, and (would) empower them to be able to help people get their power on more quickly."
He would also like to see discussions about investing more money in the infrastructure.
Areas where money was invested to put lines underground didn't have nearly as many outages, Shapiro notes. He commended Peco personnel for doing an incredible job under brutal conditions.
