Montco Man's Pending Trial Uncertain After Drug Arrest of His Attorney
By Brad Segall
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- An accused child rapist from Upper Dublin, Pa. is now dealing with the fallout after his defense attorney was arrested in Montgomery County last month on drug charges.
Harold Smith was slated to go to trial January 13th on charges that include rape of a child, corruption of a minor, and aggravated indecent assault.
But at this point his attorney, Greg Noonan, remains behind bars in lieu of $250,000 bail, charged with selling oxycodone to an undercover cop in Norristown (see related story).
Judge Steven O'Neill told Smith, 60, that it appears the trial may have to be postponed unless someone else from Noonan's firm can step in and take the trial.
Smith was charged in 2010 but fled the country after his arrest and spent a couple of years on the run before authorities received a tip that he was in Central America, caught up with him in Costa Rica, and arrested him last June (see related story).
Smith remains behind bars without bail.
