Montco Businessman Gets 2-4 Years For Soliciting Kidnap Of Supposed Rival

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County judge has sentenced an Abington businessman -- a former owner of Subway sandwich shops in the region -- to at least two years behind bars after he admitted he tried to hire someone to kidnap and harm a man he believed was having an affair with his wife (see related story).
Midway through his trial late last year, Paul Vangore pleaded guilty to three felony counts of criminal solicitation to commit kidnapping with the intent to cause bodily injury.
The 48-year-old Rydal man admitted that he wanted to hire someone to kidnap his wife's alleged lover and two of his friends.
Montgomery County prosecutor Matthew Quigg says he was pleased with the sentence: two to four years in prison and three years' probation.
"Behind it all, the defendant was the mastermind," Quigg tells KYW Newsradio. "The defendant was the one that picked out the targets. The defendant was the one that said that he wanted to see these individuals after the kidnapping, before they were ultimately harmed."
Vangore tearfully told the court his life spiraled out of control when he learned a student from India he was mentoring betrayed him with his wife.
Defense attorney Brian McMonagle says his client is remorseful and this is a story of a man who briefly fell down but picked himself up with the help of his family.
