Montco Bridge Rehab Goes On Hiatus While Workers Wait For New Parts

JENKINTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- It's been quiet lately at a bridge reconstruction site in Jenkintown, and commuters -- both drivers and train riders -- are wondering when crews will return to finish the job.
The Greenwood Avenue Bridge, over SEPTA's Jenkintown-Wyncote regional rail train station in Jenkintown (Montgomery County), was closed on June 25th so Penndot crews could replace the 73-year-old structure.
Workers were busy for several weeks, then the $5.4-million project went silent and crews were pulled from the site.
Penndot spokesman Gene Blaum says the contractor had to reorder several pieces of equipment after it was determined that longer lengths were needed.
"The contractor has not been on site since the 18th of July, and we're looking to receive this part shortly," Blaum told KYW Newsradio today, "and once that happens, we'll be back to work."
He says he has no idea when the equipment will be received, but he expects the delay will be made up and the new bridge opened to traffic on time, in the fall of 2013.
