Montco Attorney Adds Historic Same-Sex Marriage License To Her Collection
By Brad Segall
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County divorce attorney who has been collecting marriage certificates for more than 30 years has added a controversial new license to her collection.
She's made a career of representing husbands and wives who've split, but the walls of Lynne Gold-Bikin's office in Norristown, Pa. are lined with framed marriage certificates, some dating back more than 200 years.
The most recent one, Gold-Bikin says, belongs to Loreen Bloodgood and Alicia Terrizzi, the first gay couple to marry in Pennsylvania after getting a license from Montgomery County (see related story).
"It means just one more step in equality for everybody," Gold-Bikin tells KYW Newsradio.
Bloodgood calls it symbolic:
"To see the history of different types of marriages throughout, and to have ours included in that collection, it's really special to us," she says.
Gold-Bikin says she believes in marriage and believes that if spouses knew how to communicate better with each other, fewer of those marriages would end in divorce.
