Money Talks In The PA Race For Governor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- While incumbent Republican Governor Tom Corbett is sitting on a pile of cash and Democratic challenger Tom Wolf's campaign fund account is depleted, strategists expect both will have the financial backing they need to compete in November.
Governor Corbett is said to have $6 million in hand, and Republican media strategist Charlie Gerow expects him to attract serious money from the national Republican party, to make sure a Republican is in office going into the 2016 presidential election.
"There are reports that the campaign is prepared to spend up to $30 million, that will include what's already been spent in the primary campaign," he said.
Democratic consultant Dan Fee says, "Tom Corbett is the most vulnerable governor in the country, and he has policies that democrats fundamentally disagree with."
Fee thinks the Corbett campaign believed Wolf would be a more difficult opponent than his competitors in the recent Democratic primary.
"They were spending money on television, radio and direct mail attacking Tom Wolf, and it had no impact," Fee said.
Gerow disagreed with Fee's opinion, saying, "The defining question of this race is going to be whether or not Tom Wolf is even prepared to be governor."
