Mom In Custody After Abandoned Baby Found In Norristown

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities say a 28-year-old woman, whom Norristown police were looking for in connection with an abandoned baby, is now in police custody in Philadelphia.

Norristown police say they plan to charge Chrissie Williams with recklessly endangering another person and child endangerment.  They say she left her eight-month-old son in a stroller outside a Montgomery County agency building in Norristown early Tuesday morning (see related story).

Williams was picked up late Tuesday night in Southwest Philadelphia.

"They picked her up on an outstanding probation violation warrant for child endangerment," says Norristown police chief Russell Bono, "however that warrant was not for this child that was abandoned -- it was for another child that she has."

He says she has been less than cooperative with his detectives and has not offered a motive for why she abandoned the child.

Officials are now looking into whether mental health issues played a role.

A passerby found the baby and called police. The child is now in protective custody and his condition is reported to be good.
