MLB Made A Big Mistake

By Seth Everett

I know I should just let things go.  But I have been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding 9/11 and the 10th anniversary, and rather than ask why clergy couldn't be at ground zero, I'll stick to what I know: Baseball.

My main point for this blog was what I wrote on Monday.  This story about the Mets not being able to wear FDNY or NYPD hats during their Sunday night game that nobody watched is shameful.  I am mortified by that and furious that I probably know the people in that office that made that bad decision.

MLB told the Mets they had to wear the hats they sanctioned for the game.  Ironically, they also told the 2001 Mets to do the same thing.  I do remember then Mets 1B Todd Zeile daring anyone from MLB to pry those hats off their heads during that emotional time.

If they had worn the hats, I wouldn't have given it a 2nd glance.  I'd be learning how to pronounce the names of these Houston Astros players that are battling the Phillies.  Still, an injustice took place on Sunday night, and it still infuriates me.
