Mitt Romney: Just Do It
by Gary R'nel - 07/23/12 -
Mitt, you should give Nike's slogan serious consideration. Just Do It. Release more than two years of your tax returns. The calling for transparency comes not only from Democrats but from prominent fellow Republicans. The cacophony of these calls is put on public display for the undecided independent voters to digest via MSNBC, CNN, and yes, even by some at Fox News.
Further complicating matters is the news that you did not release your complete 2010 return. Those who own foreign bank accounts are required to file a separate document with the IRS that provides additional details on such overseas bank holdings. You complied with the law but you did not release that attachment with your 2010 return. More fodder, fun, and frivolity for the Democrats.
Message to Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades: Within the next 24 to 48 hours you need to accomplish the impossible. Convince your boss that he must do the unthinkable. He needs to release several years of complete returns to set aside the speculation that he may have violated some tax law. If Romney paid less than 15-percent during the recession so be it. Kudos to his tax advisors for figuring out how to game the system. Does that make Romney less patriotic? I think not.
Romney says he is simply not enthusiastic about giving Democrats hundreds or thousands of more pages to pick through, distort and lie about. Democrats posses an affinity for distortion and Romney continues to feed into this cesspool by not releasing the information. Make it public. Defend it.
Christmas is five months away but Santa has left a huge gift under the tree of Obama campaign manager Jim Messina. The methodology by which to deflect any focus on the flagging economy and keep the attention on tax returns and Bain Capital. Rhoades, nothing would make me happier than to see you play the role of Scrooge this holiday season.
