Mike Mayock: Not Sold On Mariota
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The number name that continues to pop-up in conversations all over the Delaware Valley during this NFL off-season, is Marcus Mariota.
Mariota, College Football's reigning Heisman Trophy winner, fell to the No. 6 overall projected selection in Todd McShay's latest NFL Mock Draft, keeping a slim window of possibility open for the Eagles, who have pick No. 20.
"If you're the Eagles and if you think Mariota is that guy---and because you have Chip Kelly," NFL analyst Mike Mayock told the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show on Monday, "You got an advantage on the evaluation side here---if you truly believe he's that guy and you don't believe Foles is, than you probably have to investigate going out and seeing what it would cost to go get him."
Listen to Mike Mayock on the 94WIP Mike & Ike Show:
So, is Mariota that guy?
"I can check every box---the individual components, both physically and off the field," Mayock explained. "Big arm, great feet, runs a 4.5 40 [yard-dash], athletic, smart, boom, boom. But the problem is the offense that he's in, whether you believe it or not, he's still a projection because of what teams are going to ask him to do at the next level. And you don't get to see him go through many progressions."
