Michael Vick Ranked 21st Best QB In NFL
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – For the first time in over a decade, the Eagles are entering the season without the name of a starting quarterback written in stone. Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Matt Barkley, Dennis Dixon and GJ Kinne will all get an equal chance of winning the starting job, Chip Kelly has said multiple times.
Those who expect Vick to start see Chip Kelly as the one man who may be able to revive Vick's career. If so, perhaps Vick's 2014 ranking among NFL quarterbacks will be more favorable than this year's.
CBS Sports' Will Brinson ranked the 32 quarterbacks likely to start for their respective teams, and Vick comes in at #21.
Twice upon a time Vick's been a quarterback destined for greatness. But his inability to protect the football and stay healthy has him on thin ice in Philadelphia; he could very much end up thriving in Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense and surge up this list, but as it stands right now, there are too many issues with Vick's ball security, accuracy, ability to read defenses and age to completely trust him.
Vick ranks one position ahead of Andy Reid's quarterback in Kansas City, Alex Smith, and one behind the Dolphins' second-year QB Ryan Tannehill.
Vick is ranked lowest of all NFC East quarterbacks, behind Eli Manning (#5), Tony Romo (#9), and Robert Griffin III (#15).
The top QB in Brinson's rankings is Aaron Rodgers, followed by Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.
