Michael Vick Gets Local TV Commercial Deal

WOODBURY, NJ (CBS) -- Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick is now doing TV ads for a local car dealer. It's the first such endorsement work since his release from prison.

Does that mean national endorsement deals will follow for Vick?

He's having an MVP-caliber season on the field. And even though Vick did time for dogfighting, his football performance is helping the public and advertisers forgive and forget, according to Matt Delzell, a senior director with The Marketing Arm, a Dallas-based sports and entertainment agency.

With Vick's first local television ad for Woodbury Nissan, Delzell says, Vick has turned a corner.

"I think the start of next season is when you could see some national advertisers come back on board with him," Delzell told KYW Newsradio on Thursday.  "So we're talking about the beginning of September, roughly, of next year.   I think you may see a national advertiser or two who step out and take that leap of faith."

Delzell predicts insurance or financial firms will want to keep their distance from Vick, but companies that make sports drinks or performance-based apparel may want his endorsement.
