PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Michael Vick's autobiography, Finally Free, will be released September 4th. He said when that happens, it will be his last word on his past.
"I chose to release it before the season started because I over the last three years have still had the tendency to get the same questions over and over again, deep into the season, 14 or 15 games in," he told 94WIP's Michael Barkann and Ike Reese. "I released the book in Septmeber because I'm never answering these questions again. You know, if I'm in the locker room and somebody asked me about my past, I'm just going to say 'I wrote about it.'"
Vick caused a bit of a stir last week when he said in an interview that the Eagles have the chance to be a dynasty. It brought back memories of Vince Young's "dream team" comment from 2011, and wasn't generally very well received. "I don't know how you can take so much negative out of something so positive, when I'm trying to speak upon something that we have potential to build. What I would ask everyone to do is go down the roster and look at our players," Vick said.
"Look at the Pro Bowlers that we have. Look at the players that we have that have NFL experience who have played in a substantial amount of games, who have played great football in this league and tell me that we don't have an opportunity to put a dynasty together. You know, when you think about the dynasties and the great teams of the past, they were all built. And they were all put together, and that's a tribute to great administration. But it takes time. And once you get there you have to realize in the moment, the opportunities that you have. You've got to try to seize it, and that's all I'm trying to do, to have the guys go out and develop the mindset that we've got to seize the moment. This is the best talent that I've ever been around in my life, and I'm going to take advantage of it," he said.
Andy Reid said on Friday that Vick has been the team's leader, working harder than any player during the off-season, even when coaches weren't permitted to have contact with him. "I think just looking at our team, at our off-season and what we've been able to accomplish and what our organization has been able to establish for us as players, you know we all look around and we see the talent that we have, and we understand what we can do, we understand what we can build if we put it all together," Vick said
"But at the end of the day, we know it's going to be hard work. We know it's not going to be easy. We know nothing's going to be given to us, and we have to go out and grind every day, on and off the field. Being in the classroom, making sure we're great studiers as well as great players on the field. So it all has to correlate and tie in together. So we understand that we have a lot of work to do, and we have to work to get what we want."
