Mega Millions Jackpot Soars To Record $476M
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Did you check your Mega Millions tickets for Wednesday night's drawing? We can tell you, you didn't hit the jackpot -- but no one else did either.
The winning numbers from Wednesday night were: 9, 19, 34, 44 and 51. The Mega Ball was 24.
No one picked the correct numbers in last night's drawing and that means Friday's jackpot will be a whopping, record-setting $476-million for the annuity. $341-million for the cash option.
That's well over the previous record of $390-million back in 2007, that was split by two winners in Georgia and New Jersey.
In Philadelphia, people say all that money is almost unimaginable, but they add it could do a lot of good:
"I know I would help, especially the children, like St. Jude's and all. I know I would give some to charity, you would have to."
But if you are holding tickets from last night's drawing, don't tear them up just yet. There may be some good news -- 47 players matched five of the six numbers, each of those tickets is worth up to a quarter-million dollars. Two of those tickets were bought in Pennsylvania, and two were bought in New Jersey.
