Medical Poll May Point To New Approaches In Health Care In Pa.
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A poll of Pennsylvanians may point the way to new approaches to health care in the New Year.
To be sure, the findings of the 2010 Patient Poll by a division of the Pennsylvania Medical Society has a lot to say. But, looking past the numbers to the trends, Society President Dr. Ralph Schmeltz sees too little concern about one of the day's ailments.
"Obesity is a major problem, particularly in kids, and yet it's something that people will talk about very quietly but they frequently won't discuss openly."
Dr. Schmeltz says one reason is that the health consequences of obesity are less well-known than of, for example, smoking. Another is the intrusion factor, reluctance to get in someone's face about the way they're stuffing their face. He says it's a talk that has to happen, delicately.
