Medical Marijuana To Be Available For Pa. Minors This Summer
HARRISBURG (CBS) -- The state health secretary says minors under the age of 18 will be the first to access medical marijuana now that it has been legalized in Pennsylvania.
Governor Wolf signed medical marijuana legislation into law in April and now the state Health Department is drafting permanent regulations for its implementation, while at the same time preparing to roll out interim, temporary regulations.
"We have almost completed drafting the first temporary regulation, which will allow parents and legal guardians of minors with serious medical conditions as defined by the act to obtain medical marijuana in other states before it is grown and available in Pennsylvania," said Health Secretary, Karen Murphy.
Murphy says that the regulation covering minors is expected to be ready in July. She also says the state Health Department is seeking public input as it creates the medical marijuana program, expected to take 18 to 24 months.
