Medical Marijuana Group Goes To NJ Zoning Board
MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (AP) -- A southern New Jersey zoning board is the first in the state to hold a public hearing on a proposal to use a building to sell legal medical marijuana.
Compassionate Sciences Alternative Treatment Center made its pitch Wednesday night to the zoning board in Maple Shade.
The treatment center is one of six in New Jersey awarded a license in the state to sell pot to patients.
Its officials made the case that its facility would be a permissible use in a business zone along Route 73, not far from Exit 4 of the New Jersey Turnpike. Several opponents came to the meeting to try to keep the dispensary out of the Burlington County community.
Board members expressed concern that patients would drive under the influence of pot.
