Mechanics of Oil Spill on Display at Franklin Institute
The Gulf oil spill seems to be fading in the rearview mirror, except in the atrium of the Franklin Institute.
KYW's John Ostapkovich reports it's a demonstration of some of the mechanics of the leak and its spread that may not be readily apparent from video hundreds of miles removed.
Derrick Pitts of the Franklin Institute says the demonstration confronts an aphorism that oil and water don't mix:
"When we think about oil and water, most people think that oil just floats on the water and that's the end of it, but when you look at how the ocean waves affect water and currents affect water and how it pushes the oil around and how the oil can travel in water, people may not have been able to completely understand and the demo helps them to understand."
Pitts says the demo will be available at least through the end of summer. You never know about the next oil spill.
