MD Anderson Cancer Center Facility To Open At Cooper Hospital

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Cooper Hospital is teaming up with the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to improve the quality of cancer care in the Delaware Valley.
John Sheridan, president and CEO of Cooper Health System, says MD Anderson is the number one cancer research institution in the world, with the most clinical trials.
"The partnership means that we will adopt all the ways that MD Anderson treats cancer," Sheridan tells KYW Newsradio. "And they are recognized as the best in the world. Their protocols... we will be part of their clinical trials. They will watch and absolutely mandate how we treat cancer here. So we are going to be treating our cancer patients the same way they would be treated at the main center in Houston, Texas."
Sheridan believes this partnership has the power to, for the first time, attract cancer patients from the other side of the river for treatment.
The $100-million cancer center opens October 7th.
