Mayor Nutter Urges Stuffing The Ballot Box -- For Shane Victorino
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mayor Michael Nutter today continued his push to get Phillies' centerfielder Shane Victorino into the All-Star Game.
Online voting for the last open slot on the National League team was ending at 4:00 PM today.
As Victorino looked over the mayor's shoulder, Mayor Nutter took to the keyboard at his City Hall ofice to cast another ballot for the man he wants to grab that last spot in the All-Star Game.
Victorino, on this off day for the Phillies, was cautiously optimistic.
"You know, if it happens, it happens. Obviously Philly fans are very supportive, and I appreciate the fact that even being recognized and being on this final ballot means a lot," Victorino said. "But, again, I think the greatest thing would be to be able to play in the game and see my teammates and be with them in Arizona on Tuesday."
Third baseman Placido Polanco is on the starting roster. Pitchers Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels also have made the team.
Nutter has been promoting Victorino for days, even wearing a Victorino jersey and making a pitch for Victorino votes from the stage of the city's "Welcome America" celebration on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
