Mayor Nutter To Co-Host 'A-List' Inaugural Party With John Legend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mayor Nutter is co-hosting an inaugural party in Washington, tonight, with pop singer-songwriter John Legend. The New York Times has listed it as one of the A-list events of the inauguration.
"We have all the technology, every kid can have an iPad," says John Legend, trying to sound like a policy wonk. It's an act he doesn't pull off nearly as well as he sings, but Mayor Nutter -- as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayor's -- was willing to indulge Legend enough to give him a seat on a panel on education at the Conference's annual meeting last Friday; a courtesy Legend returned by inviting Nutter to be one of the listed hosts of an inaugural after-party he's involved in.
As if to underscore the difference between a wannabe wonk like Legend and the real deal, Mayor Nutter was impatient with questions about the party.
"We have massive issues that we're dealing with. I was at the White House when the president released the proposals on crime so, there's a lot going on," and Mayor Nutter downplayed his role in the affair. "I'm pleased to be quote-unquote hosting an inaugural event with him."
