Mayor Nutter Lifts State Of Emergency
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor Michael Nutter lifted the state of emergency in Philadelphia early Sunday afternoon, but the potential for widespread flooding remained.
All the city's waterways were above flood stage, including the Schuylkill River, which was cresting to its highest level since the 19th century.
Mayor Nutter was concerned that residents would be lulled into complacency by the calm skies and that they might ignore the flood issue:
"Even though the weather appears to have cleared up, we still have some dangerous conditions, and still want to caution the public that if you don't have to be out, you should basically still stay home."
That, he said, would allow crews, including those from PECO, to do their work easier.
City government and courts were expected to open for business on Monday.
