Mayor Nutter Helps Tourism Officials Promote City's Gentrifying Neighborhoods

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia tourism officials are trying to get more visitors to go to the city's gentrifying neighborhoods. Mayor Nutter lent a hand to the effort on Monday, taking a trolley tour of some of the new hot spots. KYW's Pat Loeb caught up with him in East Passyunk.
Neighbors were lounging around the "singing fountain," a landmark at East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street, when the Mayor's Trolley pulled up.
The mayor made an enthusiastic salesman for the area and the amenities it offers for visitors, popping into restaurants and local businesses.
"Great neighborhoods make a great city; Passyunk is one of the great neighborhoods in Philadelphia," said Mayor Nutter.
Tourism officials plan to promote 14 neighborhoods that have been revitalized in the last five years, aiming not just at out-of-towners but at Philadelphians too, who may want to try something new, while feeling very much at home.
There's a lot here to do, we want folks to know about it. Philadelphia has been rapidly changing - keep your hand on the wheel - over the last few years and we just want to make sure everybody knows about it," said Mayor Nutter.
