Mayor Michael Nutter Applauds The Work Of Amtrak's K-9 Unit On National Train Day
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – From coast to coast, it was National Train Day, including at 30th Street station in Philadelphia.
"Give a big round of applause to the Amtrak police department!" cheered Mayor Michael Nutter.
He asked the crowd to recognize Amtrak police for keeping travelers safe on trains.
"Travel is safe on the train. It's comfortable on the train, and you can just have a good time. You can read, you can catch up; you can always go to sleep. Listen to your music. No one is going to bother you, and you will just have a wonderful ride."
Amtrak security's K-9 unit, one of the largest in the country, demonstrated skills.
Young and old enjoyed the miniature details of model train exhibits.
"I kind of like these trains, like it's kind of like real trains, but they are smaller," said one little boy.
Visitors were able to board NJ Transit double-decker cars, Amtrak long distance sleeper cars and luxury railcars that are privately owned and available for charter.
