Mayor Kenney Gets A Look At RevZilla At The Navy Yard
By Mark Abrams
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- He didn't don a helmet, or a leather jacket, or climb aboard a hog.
Instead, Mayor Jim Kenney used his black SUV for the trip to South Philadelphia Thursday to check out a business that's a household name among those who ride motorcycles.
The mayor headed for the Navy Yard business complex to check out RevZilla, which bills itself as the world's largest e-Commerce retailer of motorcycle apparel, parts and accessories.
The mayor met with the work force and toured both the corporate offices and a fulfillment center.
"This kind of logistics business really just makes sense for us. The wages are terrific and the work environment is terrific."
Anthony Bucci is RevZilla's CEO. He started the business in Philadelphia with two classmates he met at college.
"We're Drexel guys and our backgrounds are e-Commerce and technology. And we were starting to get into motorcycling. We realized that there was a space in the industry for an experience-centric play. And, we started in our apartment in Old City eight and a half years ago."
RevZilla is now $100 million a year business that employs 200 people. And Bucci says he's looking at expansion and adding to the workforce before the end of the year.
