Marlon Byrd Reportedly Most Attractive Phillie, Among Multiple Trade Targets
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Phillies, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, are willing to trade any player. And per Rosenthal's sources, their most popular commodity is Marlon Byrd.
Byrd, 37, is under contract for $8 million in 2015 and has a vesting option for $8 million in 2016. The right-fielder hit .264/.312/.445 adding 25 home runs and 85 RBI's, but struck out 185 times---second most in MLB.
Cole Hamels, Jonathan Papelbon, and Jimmy Rollins were also mentioned by Rosenthal as attractive trade targets.
Hamels, of course, would command the biggest return for the Phillies. His 1.94 post All-Star break ERA last season was second best in baseball and his contract---$90 million over the next four years---could be more enticing for teams than signing a top-pitcher on the open market.
