Margaret White, New Head Women's Coach At Ursinus

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Division III Ursinus College out in Collegeville has a new head women's basketball coach.

Margaret White was hired recently to take over the program after the retirement of Jim Buckley back in March.

"This is really exciting," White tells KYW Newsradio. "It was the perfect time for me. I've been an assistant, I've been very fortunate to be at some great institutions with some great programs. I've learned a lot in the past six years or so and it's the right time for me to take over a program and to be a head coach for the first time. Ursinus is a great fit, having played in the Centennial Conference (at Gettysburg College) and following the conference along the way. It's a great fit and a great time for me to take over this program."

White comes to the Bears after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Case Western Reserve University out in Cleveland. She also has spent time as an assistant at Vassar College and Elmira College. She talks about how these stints have helped prepare her for this job at Ursinus.

"I've learned how to really be a tremendous communicator," White says. "I think getting to know individual players in the group that you're working with. Being a part of a couple different programs has really helped me with that in learning how to adjust and that's a great thing I have moving forward is being able to work, especially with student-athletes who are really committed to academics and have goals outside of basketball that they want to reach. So it has been great to be able to work with student-athletes that are like-minded and I'm really excited to take what I've learned and apply that to this group and really help them become the people that they want to be."

As far as what she wants from her team on the court, White expects the Bears to really force the issue.

"We want to put other teams on their heels," White says. "I'm not expecting us to sit back and have other teams dictate the pace of the game. We're going to do that. And it's going to be exciting to watch, want to get a lot of people involved and really make every game competitive, passionate. You're definitely going to see our love for playing and our love for the work that we put in every day, every time we take the floor."

Ursinus went 8-17 this past season.
