A beloved Maple Shade School District bus driver was fatally struck by a school bus on Tuesday afternoon, the school district said. 

According to the school district, the man was outside his bus and was struck by another school bus in the bus depot at Maple Shade High School.

The driver of the bus that struck the man outside the high school stayed at the scene, according to the district. As of Tuesday night, no charges have been filed. Police on Wednesday identified the bus driver as 85-year-old Jack Hohwald.

All schools in the Maple Shade School District will be closed on Wednesday, the district said. 

The Burlington County Crisis Response Team and counselors will be available throughout the rest of the week to support students and staff. 

"We understand that such news can be profoundly upsetting and we are committed to providing the support needed during this time,"  Beth Norcia, the superintendent of Maple Shade School District, said in a statement in part.

The Maple Shade Police Department and Burlington County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the crash.

"Our hearts go out to the victim's family, Maple Shade School District and Community, which is devastated by what happened this afternoon, I can ensure a thorough and complete investigation into the matter will be completed," Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher Fletcher said in a statement.
