Many Famous Authors Born In November
By Dr. Marciene Mattleman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - While delving into history, one is amazed that many of the world's finest writers were born in November. While you might not like the content or the style, each is great in his or her own way and is living in history.
William Shakespeare, born in the 17th century, wrote 38 plays, one of which seems always to be in a local playhouse. Anne Frank, whose diary told us how it felt to love while hiding in an attic from Nazi persecutors in the 1940s and JK Rowling, whose tales about teenage fantasy have sold more than 4 million copies, were also born in November.
James Baldwin, whose honesty about sex and class, linked with spirituality, opened the eyes of Americans. Helen Keller, an activist, although deaf and blind, wrote 12 books and Dr. Seuss, author of 46 wonderful tales, will be remembered for The Cat in the Hat.
Pick a book and immerse yourself in another era or place and enjoy the magic that a literary giant can bring.
