Many Beat The Heat, Stay In The Suburbs For Independence Day Fun
LIMERICK, Pa. (CBS) - You didn't have to head into the city to have a good time for Independence Day festivities.
People beat the heat and had plenty of fun in the suburbs and the best part – no traffic!
From Limerick to Phoenixville and Royersford, the way to beat the heat on this sizzling Independence Day was to stay near swimming pools for some.
But if a pool in the backyard wasn't an option, Water World in Phoenixville worked like a charm for Marketta Byrd and her family.
Byrd, of Norristown, said, "We can eat, have fun, you can swim with the kids, the kids can have a ball."
Darryl Goode added, "Too hot but you have to do it for the family though."
And that's what we heard everywhere we went.
Harry Cusick of Royersford said, "Hang out with family and friends."
Cecelia Cusick said, "Enjoy everything with my family and friends."
Cecelia Harris of Telford added, "It's great to just come and celebrate the fourth all together."
No matter how hot, spending this day with family was paramount and Lisa Waltz knows first-hand.
Lisa Waltz with Waltz Golf Farm explained, "Today is our giant fireworks extravaganza."
Eighteen years and counting—with music, magicians and munchies, Waltz Golf Farm played host to families in search of a family-friendly outing on the fourth in Limerick.
Waltz explained, "It's a free event. We do it as a thank you to the community because I think it's really rare that businesses stay in business for fifty years and it's not just because we're so great, it's because the community supports us."
It turns out, when the show began eighteen years ago, it wasn't meant to be an annual event.
"And then the community had such a response and they said, 'You're doing that again?' And I was like, 'Oh ok, we'll do it again,'" Waltz said.
So with another successful show down, it's safe to say, let the planning for next year begin.
