Manhole Explosion In Manayunk Causes Hundreds To Go Without Power
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A number of homes are without power after officials say a manhole explosion took place in the city's Manayunk neighborhood Monday evening.
The explosion happened at about 7 p.m. on Main Street, closing access to the road between Shurs Lane and Ridge Avenue, according to officials. Crews are working to repair the problem they say was caused by cable malfunctions underground.
As of 10:30 p.m. Monday, PECO reported nearly 1,800 homes were without power and they say it could take a few hours before it is restored.
No fires were reported and there is no word on how long the street will be closed.
No immediate injuries were reported.
