Man To Stand Trial in Attack On Elderly Woman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 48-year-old North Philadelphia man, charged with a series of sometimes vicious robberies, has been ordered to stand trial for one of the crimes.
While the defendant was also awaiting a hearing in several other robberies, prosecutor Vince Regan says the victim in this case was 93-years-old and she was attacked on the elevator of her center city apartment building:
"He's grabbing her arm causing bruising and after he finally got everything out of her bag, he pushed her out of the elevator, knocking her to the ground, and gave her a little kick on the way down."
Regan said the victim was absolutely terrified:
"She broke her finger and had severe bruising along one side of her body. The worst part, besides the credit cards and money that was taken, she also lost the last remaining picture she had of her recently deceased husband, which is the hardest part to deal with."
The defender said Michael Crump is presumed innocent, and the prosecution will have to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
