Man Sues South Philly Sex Shop, Claims Gel Burned His Genitals

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A sex shop on South Street is being sued by a man who claims an intimacy cream he purchased from the store burned and scarred his genitals.
Michael Lowe says he purchased the Kama Sutra Pleasure Balm Prolonging Gel from The Mood, an adult sex paraphernalia store at 531 South Street, and that after applying the gel, he was burned and is now disfigured and dysfunctional.
The 32-year-old mixed-martial artist from Center City is now suing the sex shop and the makers of the gel for $50,000.
One legal expert with no connection to this case says that even though this product has been around for more than 40 years and even if there haven't been any complaints, the maker of the gel can still be found at fault.
"If someone uses the product as they are supposed to and they are injured, they could be held strictly liable," says Jacquie Jones, a lawyer with Jones and Associates. "Which means that whether you're negligent or not, you still have a duty to the person who has purchased your product."
The lawsuit says the companies were negligent and didn't provide proper instructions for using the gel.
